Stay in top form and love what you do even more.

Follow Denise here, as she shares with you her top tips regarding ballet and movement.

Further touching on ‘accessibility and ownership’ within ballet.

    Immerse yourself in it

    #TopTip1

Be sure to read up on some of the theory regarding ballet. Further viewing videos online, being inspired by practitioners of ballet and possibly viewing the ballet (local-regional performances) too.

    Take a leap of faith

    #TopTip2

Step out of your comfort zone and try something different. Why not visit your old ballet class with a new mindset and an outlook or a view to change your teacher's perception(s)?

    Be internally optimistic

    #TopTip3

When you engage in the dance be a glass half full person. Step out of your comfort zone slowly and stay optimistic throughout (with sufficient encouragement from everyone around you).

    Become your own judge

    #TopTip4

Look to impress yourself and not others. You should aim to become your own best judge. Further being independent, focused

    and driven.

    Be bold

    #TopTip5

Take on each sequence systematically and adapt to each one. Don’t be afraid of your short comings (e.g wide shoulders) as they will become your biggest strength some day,

    You are Ballet's future

    #TopTip6

Know that you are present in the now and that you are fully capable of achieving your best. As you are paving the way for future ballerina's in a variety of ways.

Channel 4's 'Big Ballet' is as much 'necessary' in todays landscape, as much as is it controversial (in my opinion). This is because although it sets out to celebrate all body-types, at times it feels too fabricated and false in almost 'fat-shaming' those participating in Ballet. Which of-course...
